If an AI assistant could do 90% of your job tomorrow, what would you actually want to spend your time on instead?

Not trying to doom-post, genuinely curious. Assume your job becomes mostly reviewing/directing AI output instead of producing it yourself. Some people I know would be thrilled to finally focus on mentoring or architecture, others feel like the 'doing the thing' part was the actual job satisfaction. What would you do with that time, and would you even still want to be in the same field?

honestly id probably go do more of the people side of my job, mentoring juniors, system design discussions, the stuff i never have time for between tickets

i think id just get bored and anxious tbh, the flow state of actually building something is like 70% of why i like this job

same, reviewing feels like a totally different skill and a less satisfying one for me personally

this already kind of happened to me this year and honestly? more time for actual problem scoping and talking to users instead of just cranking code

would finally have time to contribute to open source projects i care about instead of just my day job backlog

not gonna lie id probably just work less hours for the same output and spend more time outside, dont need more 'purpose' from my job

feels like this question assumes the 90% freed up time stays with the worker and not just gets absorbed into higher expectations from management lol

this is the real answer honestly, the time savings rarely go to the person doing the work

id go back to school for something completely unrelated, always wanted to study bio but never had the bandwidth
